Pearl Jam put on a hell of a live show. If you're a fan it's like a spiritual experience. It's rare to see a band sell out an arena in this day and age and it's even more rare to have the entire place sing along to the majority of their songs. I thought I was sick of songs like Alive and Small Town until I heard Pear Jam perform them in 2009 with the good people of Vancouver as back up singers!
They played a lot of new stuff from their recently released album Backspacer. The great thing about a Pearl Jam show is that they'll play new songs, they'll play some hits, some covers AND songs that fans have come to love over the years without hesitation. NO TWO SHOWS ARE THE SAME. Here are some pics from their recent concert in Vancouver courtesy of our friend Craig LePan.

I love Fresca. It's delicious. I love Pearl Jam even more. Their new album Backspacer comes out Sept. 20 but you can ge an advance listen here at www.myspace.com/tenclub. I love this album. I want to buy it a ring and have children with it...they'd start off as little 45s and before you know it they'd grow into cassette tapes. Pretty soon they'd be CD's joining the workforce and getting a mortgage, ever maturing into MP3s, until they finally grow the fuck up and realize that this whole time they really wanted to be LPs.
Last weekend (August 8th and 9th) was the Calgary "Virgin Music Festival," which was held at Canada Olympic Park and featured awesome artists such as: K-OS, Winter Sleep, Metric, Billy Talent, and of course Pearl Jam! I had the priviledge of attending and here are some of the pictures I took...
And... Here's Jason Awesome backstage while K-OS performed looking pretty damn TALL!
I was a grunge kid. In the early 90's I was a skinny teen with long hair, steel toe Doc Martens, flannel for miles and a boner for grunge music. I loved Pearl Jam then and I love them now. I realise that many of their detractors seem to blame the band for Nickelback and Creed but I'm pretty sure if Eddie Vedder ever met Chad Kroeger or Scott Stapp he'd knock them both the fuck out. Well young Eddie would, old Eddie would probably impart some Buddhist wisdom and THEN knock them the fuck out. I digress. Bottom line is Pearl Jam in 2009 have more in common with clasic rock bands from the 60's and 70's, like their heros The Who, then any Grunge copycats who made a name in the wake of their debut album TEN. Itt's apparent when you see them live, as I just did in Calgary, Alberta this past weekend, that they are above and beyond most rock acts today in terms of skill, quality of songs and sheer entertainment.
Here's the first single " The Fixer" from Pear Jam's up coming new album, Backspacer. They played it in Calgary. It rocks. Check below for the rest of the set list. Jay
